Simple Workouts That Work for Me

My home "gym". Yup, that's it.
My home "gym". Yup, that's it.

People often ask me what I do for a workout, and honestly—it’s nothing fancy. I’m not a gym rat. I like to keep things simple, consistent, and doable from home. For me, it’s about moving my body every day and building strength that supports real life.

Over the past few months, I’ve been recovering from an illness that left me fatigued, out of breath, and weak. It took time (and patience!) to rebuild my stamina. I’ve learned to listen to my body and adjust my workouts as needed. Now, I’m back to about 85% of my normal routine, and I’m feeling stronger each week.

Here’s my ideal routine:

  • Daily 30-minute walk (most days with my 10 lb weighted vest and my dog Tide!)

  • Yoga 15–20 minutes, twice a week

  • Strength training, twice a week — see my favorite videos below!

Does it vary? Absolutely! Some weeks I do more yoga, some weeks less strength. The key is consistency and flexibility—not perfection.

My goal is simple: move daily and build muscle.

How do I know it’s working? My recent lab results show significant improvements in both cholesterol and A1C levels—a great reminder that movement really matters. Exercise is just one part of the picture, and I’ll be sharing more about the other pieces of my health routine in an upcoming blog post.
