Surviving Allergy Season: Pollen, Sneezes & Keeping Your Immune System Strong

Spring has arrived in South Carolina, and with it, a thick layer of yellow dust covering everything in sight. I wash my car multiple times a week, yet every morning, I could still write “Bless You” in the pollen on my windshield. If you’re sniffling, sneezing, and questioning all your life choices every time you step outside—welcome to allergy season!

So, what’s actually happening? Histamines are the little alarm bells in your immune system. When your body detects an allergen (like pollen), histamines go into overdrive, causing all the classic symptoms—runny nose, itchy eyes, sneezing, and that oh-so-attractive nasal congestion.

Now, I can’t control the pollen count (if only!), but I can control how I support my immune system. Here are some dos and don’ts to keep allergy season from taking you down:

Do:

  •  Support your gut health

  •  Drink plenty of water

  • Get enough sleep

🚫 Don’t:

  • Overload on sugar

  • Skimp on hydration

  • Forget to wash off pollen before bed

Some supplements that may help with histamine response include quercetin, vitamin C, bromelain, and nettle leaf. And because a strong immune system is your best defense year-round, focus on the basics: eat whole foods, reduce stress, get enough sleep, move your body, and stay hydrated.

Seasonal allergies don’t have to rule your life—small changes can make a big difference! Want more tips? Join me in this month’s workshop where we’ll dive deeper. 🌿💪
