Is Your Body Trying to Tell You Something? Part 1

I hear it all the time: “I just don’t feel like myself.” Maybe it’s fatigue, bloating, restless sleep, nagging headaches, brain fog, or a racing mind. Sometimes it’s being too hot, too cold, or dealing with random aches, swelling, or skin irritations. These small signs are your body’s way of whispering for attention. And if we ignore them? The whispers get louder.

Recently, I learned this the hard way. I’ve always had some challenges with asthma and allergies, and this time I didn’t really listen to the early warnings. It landed me in the ER with pneumonia — and bloodwork even revealed anemia- what? That was my wake-up call. I had to slow down, rest, take my medicine and supplements, and add more iron-rich foods into my diet. As much as I resist sitting still, this setback gave me space to reset and really listen to what my body needs.

I've seen this with my loved ones as well. My daughter's spontaneous seizure from extreme stress and dehydration and my husband's acute gallbladder attack that lead to emergency surgery. Each time it was the body's way of saying "Hey- not doing ok here! A little help please."

In our busy worlds we often don't listen until it's too late. I'm here to encourage you to be kind to yourself. Treat yourself like your best friend. You would never tell your friend "Stay up one more hour working- you need to push through." or "Go ahead, skip your meals, you don't really need to eat." or "It's only a fever- suck it up!"

As we head into a season where immune systems are tested, it’s worth asking: are you paying attention to your body’s signals? You can strengthen your foundation by focusing on five key areas:

  1. Sleep: Consistent bedtime, less screen time, deeper rest.

  2. Exercise: Daily movement, not just workouts — stretching counts.

  3. Nutrition: Whole foods, protein with meals, colorful produce.

  4. Stress: Mindful breaks, breathing practices, saying “no.”

  5. Relationships: Stay connected, nurture support systems.

What signs is your body giving you? Are you listening? Are you being kind to yourself?
